Pretoria - Three Tshwane metropolitan council officials have been arrested for unpaid traffic fines during a raid by metro police at the council offices.
Metro police acting director Kealeboga Matlapeng said the swoop on offices at the BKS building started at 10:00 on Wednesday.
"We apprehended the three officials for failure to pay their traffic fines and more arrests are imminent," he said.
Matlapeng refused to reveal the identity of the officials.
"This clampdown on defaulting drivers is not meant to embarrass the council," he said.
"We embarked on this exercise because we could not arrest these offenders at their homes."
More raids were going to be conducted later in the day at the Munitoria building, where the executive mayor's office is located, Matlapeng said.
