Johannesburg - Two days before another long weekend hundreds of metro police officers will be out in full force along major roads and freeways in Johannesburg.
"There will be zero tolerance approach towards all traffic offenders. Roadblocks will be held on roads where there is a high accident rate", said spokesperson Wayne Minnaar on Tuesday.
He said drunken drivers would be transported in metro Quantum buses to certain police stations where there would be nurses to draw blood from offenders, before they are placed in police cells.
Minnaar warned motorists who drive around without their number plates that they would be arrested if found.
A motorcyclist and two motorists were arrested this weekend on the N154 freeway near Muldersdrift for hiding plates in their boots.
They were granted R1 000 bail and will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court next week.
Those planning to drive on holiday were advised to take a break at least every two hours and be on the look out for pedestrians, particularly along roads in rural areas, said Minnaar. Police have warned that hundreds of metro police officers will be out in full force before the next long weekend along major roads and freeways in Johannesburg.
