Johannesburg - A case of attempted murder and armed robbery has been opened after a biker was shot on Witkoppen Road in Douglasdale, police said on Friday.

The incident happened at around 19:00 on Thursday night, said Lieutenant Kay Makhubela.

The man was on his bike when a black car forced him to stop. The occupants got out and tried to grab a bag off the biker's back.

"It is alleged that shots were fired and the biker was injured on the leg," said Makhubela.

The suspects took the bag and fled the scene.

The biker was taken to hospital for further medical care.

Some reports stated that the biker's attackers were heavily armed and dressed in police uniform. Their vehicle was also alleged to have had a blue light.

Makhubela said police were not aware of this.

He called on anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact the police.
