Cops probe car theft syndicate

Johannesburg - West Rand police said on Thursday they were investigating a crime syndicate believed to be involved in cross-border car smuggling.
"One man was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle but we don't believe that he is operating alone," Inspector Solomon Sibiya said.
Sibiya would not release further information on the arrested man, in order to prevent investigations or arrests from being hampered.
He did say however, that the man was arrested in Polokwane in Limpopo.
"He is currently in police custody in Polokwane but the arrests we are going to make will be here (on the West Rand)."
Sibiya said that if a market for South African cars was found in neighbouring countries, the investigation would reveal the details.
