Johannesburg - The manager of a nightclub and four of his patrons were arrested during a police raid in New Doornfontein, Johannesburg on Saturday night.
"We were working on information that drugs were being sold and used in the nightclub," police spokesperson Inspector Dennis Adriao said on Sunday.
He said the four men arrested were found in possession of drugs, but many other patrons had time to discard theirs, and a variety of substances worth R20 000 was found strewn on the floor of the club.
The manager was arrested for trading without a liquor licence. R30 000 worth of liquor was also confiscated.
Adriao said the police appreciated that the 80 clubbers at The Factory at the time of the raid were co-operative and friendly: "The police did their job and they left. They were very co-operative," he said.
Drugs found included Cat (crystal meths), cocaine, Ecstasy, dagga, and various schedule 7 medicines.
"We are enforcing the laws quite strictly. We will be following further up on information on other nightclubs," Adriao said.
