Johannesburg - Two men were arrested in Benoni, on the East Rand, after stolen goods worth over R3m were found in their possession, Ekurhuleni metro police said on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off, members of the equestrian and dog units found a van full of Red Bull energy drinks on Tuesday afternoon, spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago said.

The two occupants, Ethiopian men aged 34 and 36, were unable to produce valid invoices for their cargo.

At storage units in Pretoria, other goods including print cartridges, baking powder, dried fruit, biscuits, and vegetables were found.

Investigations showed that the energy drinks were stolen during a business robbery in Germiston at the weekend, while the other goods were stolen during truck hijackings.

"Company representatives, whose companies were victims of the hijackings brought along documentary proof to identify the stolen goods," Kgasago said.

One of the men was out on bail of R20 000 after being arrested for possession of a cargo of rice stolen during a truck hijacking.

The two were expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate's Court soon on charges of possession of stolen goods.
