Cops search for gang rape video victim

2012-04-18 10:12
Johannesburg - Gauteng police say they are working around the clock to track down the 17-year-old girl who was gang raped by seven boys, as public outcry over the incident grows.

Eyewitness News
reported that the gang rape was captured on a 10-minute cellphone video, which has apparently gone viral.

The seven boys - aged between 14 and 20 - were arrested in Dobsonville on Tuesday, and will appear in court on Thursday.

Police say they are following up on leads to find the girl, who was reported missing three weeks ago. It is believed she was abducted and kept as a sex slave.

It is unclear whether she was drugged in the video, or is mentally disabled.

Meanwhile, South Africans have taken to social networks to express their outrage at the incident. The hashtag #rapevideo is currently the top trending topic on Twitter in South Africa.
