Cape Town - The search for five suspects who hijacked six tourists on their way to Mozambique has yet to yield any results, KwaZulu Natal police confirmed on Saturday.

The group had left in two vehicles from Pine Tree Lodge at 06:30 on Thursday when they were accosted by the gang at 06:30 near Emanguzi, confirmed police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane.

“The victims from Mpumalanga were hijacked of their Fortuna and Hi-Lux bakkies. The hijackers drove off with the tourists still in the vehicles, followed by the rest of the suspects in a dark blue Polo with GP number plates,” he said.

The tourists were also robbed of their valuables and dumped in the bushes near Thengani, where residents phoned the police.

No one was hurt.

“The SANDF was activated along the border and Saps and Tracker [Vehicle Tracking] undertook a search of [neighbouring] areas as the vehicles were believed to have been intended to be taken to Mozambique,” Zwane said.

The search continues, he confirmed.

Cases of hijacking and kidnapping are under investigation.
