Corrie Sanders arrests welcomed

2012-09-27 21:29

Johannesburg - The arrests of three men in connection with the murder of former world heavyweight boxing champion Corrie Sanders evoked praise on Thursday.

Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa and civil rights body AfriForum commended the officers who made the arrest.

The minister said: "Their dedication towards the safe-keeping of our society is a shining example of the kind of officers we expect, and are working towards sustaining."

AfriForum spokesperson Nantes Kelder said it was crucial for criminals to know they would not get away.

Three Zimbabwean men were arrested in the morning at Oukasie informal settlement, near Brits, in the North West.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said police received a tip-off, which led to the arrest of three men at about 10:00.

They recovered property believed to have been stolen during the robbery in which Sanders was shot on Saturday.

The three men - two aged 20 and the other 19 - were Zimbabweans.

They would appear in Brits Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Sanders was at the Thatch Haven Country Lodge, in Brits, when armed robbers entered and began firing shots at random.

He was hit in the hand and abdomen, and died in the Kalafong Hospital on Sunday.

Sanders won the World Boxing Organisation's heavyweight title in March 2003, dropping Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko in the second round in Hanover, Germany.

He retired five years later.

    Assh0les....!

  • punungwe - 2012-09-27 21:40

It is up to the Zimbabwean community in Africa to stop people who tarnish the reputation of all of us. These criminal live among us and many of them are our relatives and friends. We might think what they do is none of our business, but at the end of the day we are all affected by the reputation smear their actions generate. I therefore call upon all members of the Zimbabwean community to volunteer information to the police regarding people they might know who are engaged in criminal acts.

  • punungwe - 2012-09-27 21:40

Can we have their names please?

      millionwatts1 - 2012-09-27 21:45

      They usually have ndebele names.

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-09-27 22:20

Some are Shona, while others have fake IDs with South African names. One can tell them apart from South Africans by their accents

      millionwatts1 - 2012-09-27 22:40

Believe it or not ndebeles in Zim have same names as Zulus here. They are even plenty Themba Thwalas amongst ndebeles so its not like they change their names when they land here.

  • millionwatts1 - 2012-09-27 21:40

    Something is not talling here.

  • thandeka.mchunu - 2012-09-27 21:45

I mean really! Why r these alleged criminals from Zim cum all the way 2 Mzansi 2 kill a boxing hero. Why didn't they just take whatever they wanted and not the life? Sies man! These scums must rot in jail. They r lucky they r not in Botswana as they wud b hanged if found guilty

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-09-27 21:50

Surprisingly, they are brave enough to ride on the back of crocodiles as they run away from Zimbabwe to come and behave like scum in our country, yet they are too scared to do anything to that 80 something year old biltong called Mugabe that f-ing their country up

      keith.ngobeni - 2012-09-27 23:28

@themba I like the term \biltong\ describing Mugabe but eish man our lovely dry spicy meat can do wonders compared to that old wrinkle dictator across the limpopo river. Coming to the crime itself it's so sad for corrie to parish just like that, one thing i have noticed is most Zimbabwean men are becoming fast criminals entrepreneurs even here in the United kingdom most crimes

      keith.ngobeni - 2012-09-27 23:35

and dodgy dealings are committed by them

Wow. Another VIP is murdered and the culprits arrested within days. What about our three little orphans that were raped and horrifically murdered with stones. Why haven't the culprits been apprehended yet. Or do our orphans not matter enough and have no rights????

      simon.mwando - 2012-09-28 06:11

Great vision! Seems they where afraid of Afri forum

      lillian.smith.77715 - 2012-09-28 09:14

Could not agree with you more and pray that they too will be given the VIP status in apprehending these murderes. Every crime should receive the same attention.

  • majaheni.magagula - 2012-09-27 22:16

Actually in this country we need to bring back the death penalty. We can't pride ourselves of having the best constitution in the world, when it is just cosmetic and not protecting the citizens. Upright citizens don't enjoy freedom in this country only criminals enjoy freedom.

      Savethe White O - 2012-09-27 22:33

That's right the (so called) best constitution in the world makes it possible for criminals to thrive. This constitution give them rights. If you commit a crime you have forfeited you rights thats how it should be

      clemens.kiessig - 2012-09-28 08:30

Amen...it cost the state about R6000 a month to feed and care for 1 inmate, our pensioners het R1080? Catch them trail them hang or shoot them, quick and cheap. Take the savings and build houses or roads create jobs for the poor. and if they must go to prison let their own families feed them not the taxpayer

The illegal immigrants in this country are already costing us dearly. Most come into the country without bringing something valuable like money or skills. Instead they settle in the informal settlements creating further problems. All because of the governments \open the borders / free for all\ policy. This is going to backfire big time.

  • Harold Chisimba - 2012-09-28 06:42

Atrocious parasites like their tyrant grandfather.

  • Harold Chisimba - 2012-09-28 07:10

But why not killing their so-called pres.who is mistreating their own families in their own country.

  • peter.mokoena.31 - 2012-09-28 07:15

Sad chapter to loose one of our sporting icon by the illegal immigrants. Still our society is being slayed by those foreigners staying in the exclusive suburbs, driving luxury cars without having to wake up and pay tax, by selling drugs. The effects of gansters paradise will have lasting effects for generations to come. The government is to blame for all these mayhem.

  • karen.t.hawkey - 2012-09-28 07:31

Strange how when it's a well known person that is involved in some henious crime the perpetrators are arrested within days .... we're still waiting almost 3 years later for ANY sort of information regarding our family member that was murdered in front of his wife and children!! And, yet again, they were arrested due to a tip-off not by the actual work of the "wonderful" police service we have.

  • tshivhombelaf - 2012-09-28 07:45

For as long as illegal emigrants still freely roam our streets in the name of political refugees, the fight against crime is going to be difficult. When we raise this, we are said to be xenophobic. The are no crises in Zim as the dictator was voted for by these illegal emigrants. Who killed Lucky Dube? Mozambicans.

      bheki.moyo.39 - 2012-09-28 09:01

Know your fact don't just comment based on your hatred towards all foreigners. A crime is crime whether it was committed by a south African or a foreigner. And for your own information ,the dictator you are talking about was voted out several times but he doent want to vacate the presidential post so don't mislead other good Africans with your propaganda. Africa as a whole is against criminals.

      johnny.smith.391420 - 2012-09-28 09:51

Yes you are so right !! the next thing is they out on bail and come rape our CHILDREN !! they mus t go back to the country they voted for !! it's theirs now what seem to be the problem why come to S.A. and take our Citizen's jobs away !! how many s.a it jobless because they steal their jobs

  • kobus.oosthuizen.58 - 2012-09-28 07:55

when will all these scumbags from zim and mozambique be prevented from crossing our borders? fact is that most of the violent crime is done by dogs north of our borders who come here with nothing to lose, and malicious intent.

      lillian.smith.77715 - 2012-09-28 09:02

We have scumbags from Europe as well (take the murders of Brett Kebble and Lolly Jackson to name but two)and there are lots of crimes committed by South Africans. Why can we not just voice or disgust at all the crime being committed irrespective by whom instead of singling out AFRICANS

      bheki.moyo.39 - 2012-09-28 09:14

Your name suggest that you are also a foreigner is this country,I wonder whether you will like it if I call you a scumbag and a dog. Treat criminals as criminals without using your hatred towards a certain country.

  • talana.malherbe - 2012-09-28 09:21

I have nothing against any foreigners, I do however have a huge problem with all criminal elements, irrespective where they are from. The problem is not foreigners per say, the problem is its become too easy in SA for all criminals. If our own government who is corrupt to the core can't set a proper example, how do you expect any citizen to respect law and order? Totally sick!

  • sam.swanpoel - 2012-09-28 09:22

Now somebody please tell me, if found guilty why in hell they should not get the death penalty.

  • johnnie.walker.7503314 - 2012-09-28 09:25

Instead of hanging the bastards and getting rid of them, taxpayer money will now be wasted on keeping them in jail and feeding them for the rest of their miserable lives. Taxpayer money that could have gone to improve the hospitals that couldn't save Corrie Sanders. Taxpayer money that could have improved schools. Taxpayer money that could have improved roads... Getting rid of the death penalty is good for a well developed country with almost no crime - but very unpractical for a developing country.

  • carlos.deabreu.338 - 2012-09-28 10:24

But the government has known for a long time about the crime wave coming from Zimbabweans. The reason they have ignored it is because they target the white and asian communities.

  • marianne.dijzel - 2012-09-28 10:31
