Corrie Sanders' killers barbarians - mayor

2012-09-24 16:21

Johannesburg - The killers of former world heavyweight boxing champion Corrie Sanders are "barbarians", Ekurhuleni Mayor Mondli Gungubele said on Monday.

"While the country mourns his death I hope the barbarians who did this are locked up as soon as possible and get to face the full might of the law," Gungubele said in a statement.

He extended his condolences to Sanders' family, friends and colleagues.

Sanders was at Thatch Haven Country Lodge in Brits, North West, on Saturday night, when gunmen burst in. The men fired shots at random, wounding Sanders in the hand and stomach.

He died in Kalafong Hospital on Sunday.

Sanders won the World Boxing Organisation's heavyweight title in March 2003 by dropping Ukrainian Wladimir Klitsckho in the second round in Hanover, Germany. He retired five years later.

How can you call them Barbarians, they are parasites not fit for this Earth. And so are the hospitals that refused him treatment.

@CarolynDewrance, can you please be more specific regarding the hospitals that refused to treat CS, thanks. Condolences to the family and friends.

He never had a medical aid so private hospitals wouldn't take him. He was left to the mercy of our wonderful cANCer hospitals and therefore his life couldn't be saved.

      mzuvukile.maswana - 2012-09-24 17:47

Is this true about our hospitals? That is something else this country of ours. Money comes first before a person's life. Why was this not reported as it is saddening?

      irene.buthelezi.1 - 2012-09-24 19:59

@mzuvukile ~ What is saddening is that cANCer as allowed our hospitals to become to useless. That's whats more saddening than the fact he didn't have a medical aid!

Indeed a sad day when innocents are murdered for no reason. Corrie Sanders a public figure is murdered and the spokesperson for the SAPS tells us that a massive manhunt is underway. I agree, the perpetrators must be brought to book! Herein lies a huge "BUT"... Every South African should warrant this type of response when they become victims like Corrie did. We are told by the mayor of Ekuruleni that these murders are "barbarians". It should be pointed out Mr Mayor that all murders are barbarians... what comes to mind here are rthe myriad farm murders taking place daily... I say daily because this is the truth. The mere fact that we only read of the occasional farm murder does not mean they are infrequent. The point I am making, is not a racial point per se but rather that the SA government does nothing about murder in general. Only in a high profile case such as the Sanders case does it appear as if anything is being done! Why, we may ask... well it's because the world is watching and the SA govt needs to appear as if it is doing something when we all know for the most part that some killings are not given a second thought.

      breggie.hale - 2012-09-24 17:38

I agree with "fargone", and my sincere sympathy is with Corrie's family and friends. He was a man who lived life to the fullest...but what about all the other innocent victims who are killed daily and become statistics? If only SA had a reliable and vigilant Police Force, but it is a farce to believe that they will "leave no stone unturned" until his murder solved!!! Come on, if you believe that you are living in Cuckoo Land! Why oh why are we still living in this corrupt country?? And paying our taxes????

What would you call Lucky Dube's ones?

      christo.vandermerwe.7 - 2012-09-24 18:05

Same type of barbarians there is no place on this earth for people like that, bring back the death penalty

      brett.michielin - 2012-09-24 18:09

When lucky died it was just as sad his prisoner album was the first album I ever owned the people that murdered him are also barbarians. Stop trying to get the white okes to react. Don't be a prick and make the loss of a life a race fight. Think of everyone who has lost love ones. I'm going to say one thing when you think and do good things. Good things will happen. Don't be an ass dude no one likes an ass.

      mc.segal.5 - 2012-09-24 18:24

Referendum please.thumbs up for death penalty Down for no.

      mzuvukile.maswana - 2012-09-24 18:53

@Brett did you see a race card here? All I was trying to reiterate here was that both Lucky and Corrie served their country proud regardless of race or field of perfomance but they perished at the hands of the very same country they loved. Broer crime doesn't have race its just crime. The sentiments and disgust you see here is the very same we felt when Lucky died and nothing has improved even though our politicians think otherwise. Question is what do we do about that?

      henk.vanrensburg.31 - 2012-09-24 20:12

barbarians buddy, like Jaco Steyn. he must just be shot in the grave dug by himself. One thing i can tell you about afrikaners. If you wrong you are wrong. Color does not matter when it comes to manners. Jy moet gedonder word!

      brett.michielin - 2012-09-24 20:43

Mzu what I was trying to say that as a person that loves music. I was more upset with lucky dying than corrie. Both very sad dude. Happy heritage day bud.

  • christo.vandermerwe.7 - 2012-09-24 18:01

How long are we as South Africans going to allow that our lives are turned into turmoil by a few barbarians ,it is long time overdue for us to take control of this outrages situation

  • malcolm.j.patterson.1 - 2012-09-24 18:30

According to SA crime stats this will go down as a homicide not a murder, wake up South Africa every robber that goes in armed to take something that does not belong to him is a murder, he'll do anything to get what he wants including innocent bystanders that happen to get in his way. ALL ARMED ROBBERIES should carry the death penalty.

  • mshiniboys - 2012-09-24 19:00

swearing at them is not going to bring him back...tell us what you promise to do to catch the criminals....can you?

  • Johnelle Olivier - 2012-09-24 19:01

As if Corrie was an angel!!!!

      henk.vanrensburg.31 - 2012-09-24 20:12

      better than you a hole!

      MC - 2012-09-25 13:15

Johnelle is anyone perfect? The man was murdered. I am not sure you would be making a comment like that if it was your loved one taken from you like this. Shame on you.

  • Savethe White O - 2012-09-24 19:12

Forget about the death penalty. There won't be any anc voters if it is brought back

  • henk.vanrensburg.31 - 2012-09-24 20:09

Get to face our law??? It is a jokemayor.....!

  • Raymon - 2012-09-24 20:39

Hey, get in touch with reality, the country is swarming with barbarians.

  • caryl.daniels - 2012-09-24 23:46

never changes there does it...just getting deeper..the killings should be stopped ..where ids your government too busy spending your money on lavish lifestyles and not a care for it people..people WAKE UP!!

  • MC - 2012-09-25 13:13

The Barbarians are also the government that is doing nothing about the crime in this country. The hospital staff that did not assist him when he was losing blood and dying because of it. The lack of regard for human life in South Africa is sickening.
