Johannesburg - About R20 000 worth of counterfeit hats were confiscated and 42 people were arrested when Johannesburg police swooped on a factory in the city centre on Tuesday, police said.
Sergeant Sanku Tsuke said in a statement police arrested the suspected illegal immigrants during a three-hour raid of the Medical Arts Centre building at the intersection of Jeppe and Troye streets.
Among the brands that featured on the counterfeit headgear were Nike, Reebok, Diesel, Orlando Pirates and Manchester United, Tsuke said.
Police also seized 19 sewing machines used in producing the illegal goods.
Tsuke added that 20 of those arrested would be taken to the Lindela Repatriation Centre in Krugersdorp.
