Cape Town - A Cape Town couple were arrested after drugs with an estimated street value of R100 000 were found at their home, Western Cape police said on Tuesday.

The couple's house in Pelican Heights was raided on Monday, said Mitchell’s Plain cluster commander Major General Jeremy Vearey.

Police found 740 sachets of Tik (methamphetamine), 100g of unprocessed Tik, and 1 560 Mandrax tablets.

The tablets were apparently stashed in a baby scooter bicycle.

Vearey said a new type of Mandrax tablet was discovered.

Tablets were usually marked with a "B", which stood for a type of pill known as a Boss or Bentley. Some of the pills in the stash were marked with "E" for Eagle.

"From the beginning of 2014 we noticed that this MX tablet had an Eagle insignia on it. We request assistance from the public," Vearey said.

An undisclosed amount of money and a 9mm firearm with several rounds of ammunition were also confiscated.

Vearey said a new trend was that drugs were being manufactured and stored in "affluent, leafy" areas rather than the Cape Flats.

"It is time that residents know their neighbours in these affluent areas. Instead of only focusing on crimes such as house-breaking, people must also become aware of other suspicious-looking things," he said.

"Residents’ support is crucial."

Vearey said the couple, in their 30s, were linked to a well-known drug dealer serving time in jail.

They would appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate's Court soon.
