Johannesburg – An alleged rapist was overpowered by his
victim and her husband, and then handed over to the police in Ibika Township,
near Butterworth, on Thursday, Eastern Cape police said.
The woman was asleep with her husband when she heard
someone breaking down their door, said police spokesperson Jackson Manatha.
"A male voice told her to keep quiet. The couple
complied with the suspect, who robbed them of their cellphones before raping
the woman in front of her husband," he said.
The woman's husband attacked the man while he was allegedly
raping his wife.
"The husband overpowered him with the help of his
wife and subdued the man before calling the police," said Manatha.
The 30-year-old rapist was taken to Butterworth Hospital,
where he was treated and discharged.
He would appear in court on Friday.
