Pretoria - A Sinoville couple have appeared in the North Gauteng High Court on charges of murder and child abuse, following the death of the woman's 3-week-old baby a year ago.

Court papers state that Juanita Oldewage, 25, and Christiaan Oldewage, 27, inflicted multiple injuries, including skull and rib fractures, on the infant, The Pretoria News reported.

They are accused of intentionally abusing or deliberately neglecting him.

The Oldewages married shortly before the baby’s birth.

The baby was taken to hospital for treatment on 10 December 2011, and was admitted a few days later. He died a few hours after admission.

The matter was postponed to July 2013.
