Johannesburg - The High Court in Pretoria ordered a horse be returned to a girl after her father removed the animal from its stable in order to punish his daughter, the Saturday Star reported.

Judge Jody Kollapen had to decide whether the father had exceeded the boundaries of punishment toward his 12-year-old daughter, according to the report.

The father, who was referred to in court as a "rich" businessman from Mooikloof, east of Pretoria, removed the horse Wakidi from the stables a few days ago.

The man wanted to punish his daughter because he was not happy with her conduct toward him in an e-mail.

According to the report the child was devastated and became hysterical when she discovered the horse was gone.

Her mother turned to the court in an "extremely urgent" application to have the horse returned.

Kollapen ruled that the horse be returned by 09:00 on Saturday.

Apart from Wakidi being returned, he also ruled that the divorced couple, the child and an expert on child matters meet to try rebuild their relationship.
