D-Day for Fred

Cape Town - Murder accused Fred van der Vyver will know on Tuesday afternoon whether the Cape High Court feels he has a case to answer.
Judge Deon van Zyl will give his ruling on an application by Van der Vyver for discharge at the end of the State case.
The young man is accused of bludgeoning his girlfriend, master's degree student Inge Lotz, to death with a hammer in her Stellenbosch flat in 2005.
Van der Vyver's advocate, Dup de Bruyn, has said that his client is the victim of fraudulent evidence produced by police under pressure for results.
De Bruyn told the court on Monday that on the morning after the killing, Van der Vyver fully explained to police his movements on the day in question.
This was one of the most important aspects pointing to his innocence.
De Bruyn also said the constable who lifted a fingerprint, which had the potential of destroying Van der Vyver's alibi, was a liar and had given three totally different explanations of how he lifted it.
