Johannesburg - The Democratic Alliance on Sunday called for a speedy conclusion of an investigation into a travelling voucher scam involving parliamentarians.
DA chief whip Douglas Gibson said the allegations of dishonest conduct by over 135 MPs was the biggest scandal to hit parliament since the first democratic elections in 1994.
"This cloud of suspicion cannot be allowed to hang over parliament for much longer," he said.
"In addition to the MPs that might have been involved in this dishonesty, there are hundreds who are in no way involved in the scandal, and they risk being tarred with the same brush."
On Friday, Speaker Baleka Mbete said the amount involved in the scam could reach R16m.
Six people, believed to be the owners of Cape Town travel agencies have been arrested by the Scorpions elite detective unit in connection with scam.
There was speculation that MPs could be next on the Scorpions' list.
