Johannesburg - A psychologist is expected to testify in the trial of murder-accused DJ Donald Sebolai in the High Court in Johannesburg, sitting in Palm Ridge, on Monday.

On Thursday Sebolai's lawyer, Thabang Mathopo, wrapped up re-examination of his client and requested that the matter be postponed to Monday.

The former Jozi FM DJ underwent a tough cross-examination by prosecutor Elize le Roux, during which he maintained that his girlfriend's death was not his fault.

Sebolai was formerly the host of the mid-morning chat show, which focused mostly on women's and children's rights.

He claimed that Dolly Tshabalala was injured as the two struggled over a knife, which she had used to stab him in the hand. She had accused him of cheating, he said.

The University of Witwatersrand receptionist was found dead in Sebolai's bed in June last year. She had bled to death from a stab wound to the pubic area and thigh, which punctured an artery.

Sebolai was arrested nine days later after Tshabalala's vehicle was found dumped a few kilometres from the crime scene, with her bloody clothes and the suspected murder weapon in the cubbyhole.

Sebolai's earlier testimony revealed that the couple's relationship was strained.

Sebolai told the court that he and Tshabalala had on numerous occasions physically assaulted each other, but always patched things up because they loved each other.

The couple drank alcohol together regularly and at times invited Tshabalala's best friend, Nonhlanhla Mkhize, for sexual encounters.
