Durban - Charges against a man accused of raping a 94-year-old-woman were withdrawn in the New Hanover Magistrate's Court, the Witness reported on Tuesday.

The woman was attacked and raped in her home at kwaSwayimane, near the town of Wartburg in KwaZulu-Natal on July 21.

DNA test results showed that Ntuthuko Ndlela, 28, was not the assailant but he was still facing a robbery charge relating to another incident.

The State's case was based mainly on Ndlela who was identified by the woman's grandchild who witnessed the rape.

Ndlela denied he was responsible for the rape of the woman during his bail application in August.
