Johannesburg - A father of five was arrested on Monday morning for allegedly killing two of his children in a shack fire in Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng police said.
The 27-year-old man locked the children in a shack which he set alight shortly before midnight on Sunday, Warrant Officer Kinnie Steyn said.
"Three of the children, aged between two and seven, survived the fire with minor injuries after they were rescued by neighbours."
The bodies of the two children, aged two and 11-months, were found only after emergency workers extinguished the fire.
Steyn said the father was found at a nearby house, where he was arrested. He was expected to appear in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate's Court soon on charges of murder, attempted murder, and arson.
