Johannesburg -  A man who was spent 10 years in jail has been released after his daughter admitted she lied about her rape, The New Age newspaper reported on Thursday.

Cedric Shezi, 39, was convicted on two counts of rape and received a life sentence.

After a decade in the Durban-Westville prison for allegedly raping his daughter, Pinky Dube, he was released on Wednesday after she admitted that she had lied about the rape.

"Dad. I am sorry and I love you," Dube told her father after his release.

Dube blamed her mother, Shezi's estranged wife, for coaching her to lie.

"She put me up to it. She made me to lie about my father raping me," Dube told The New Age.

Dube's mother died in 2007.

"I am happy that the truth has finally come out. But also, I forgive my daughter; she was very young at that time..." Shezi told the newspaper.
