Dad gets life for raping daughter, 13

Polokwane - A Tzaneen man was jailed for life on Tuesday for the rape of his 13-year-old daughter, Limpopo police said.

The Tzaneen Regional Court handed down the sentence to Tshepiso Peter Malapane after he was convicted of the rape, said Lieutenant Colonel Mohale Ramatseba.

He said the assault, which happened last December, took place when the girl's mother was not at home. He threatened his daughter that he would kill her if she told her mother.

When the mother noticed her daughter was bleeding and took her to Mankweng Hospital for treatment, the details of the rape emerged.

The man was arrested two days later.

Ramatseba said the case against the man suffered a setback when the mother of the girl died while the trial was not yet concluded.

"She was the State witness. The professional investigative skills of Captain Marumo Phineas Matula convinced the court that the accused needed to be sent to prison for many years," said Ramatseba.
