Dad hid in ceiling with kidnapped child

2012-01-17 11:16

Johannesburg - A man has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping his five-year-old daughter in Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg, police said on Tuesday.

He was caught while hiding with the child in the ceiling of a house in Palm Springs, Vereeniging, on Monday afternoon, Lietenant-Colonel Katlego Mogale said.

She said the 35-year-old man had been on the run since Friday when he took the girl from his estranged wife's home.

"The dad took the child and promised to bring her back to her mother after a few hours, but he never did," Mogale said. "The woman opened a kidnapping case after her estranged husband failed to return their daughter at the agreed time."

He was expected to face a kidnapping charge soon in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court.

real dad does not kill but hid with their children, proud of you orange farm dad!

      koo.doyle - 2012-01-17 11:25

For kidnapping the child from its mother? How is your head?

      Deon - 2012-01-17 11:26

      Probably sarcasm koo.

      elphaas.mgiba - 2012-01-17 11:41

koo & Deon, kidnapping is better than murder imagine if everyone that was killed in the past month was kidnapped. Dad wanted more bonding time however the time agreed on was just too short and I mean dad never wanted to do anything stupid and that's why he decided to spend some more time in the ceiling and personally I'm proud of him!

      elphaas.mgiba - 2012-01-17 12:04

South African media houses are killing our society, again wrong headline news were used instead of saying “ Dad hid in ceiling to bond with his child”, they publish the headline “Dad hid in ceiling with kidnapped child” – now they make it look like the dad is a criminal here. I’m tend to agree with Thabo Mbeki that the media is hindering our development as a society and for the fact that people like Koo.doyle and Deon belief everything that the media publish is also killing us. Looking at what the orange farm dad did to me the mother should have just allowed the more time for the dad to spend with his child. The media houses must be restricted not just to publish as they wish now the poor child is going to take it as if his dad is a monster while not, please guys you killing the beautiful South Africa we trying to build.

      koo.doyle - 2012-01-17 12:23

      Maybe not then Deon?

      Deon - 2012-01-17 12:25

This was kidnapping as he did not have permission. Lock him up, next time he might kill his child to spite the wife (a Kotze in the making).

      louwc - 2012-01-17 13:14

There is a reason why he did not have custody of the child in the first place, nor assumably been granted enough visiting rights - and why would the mom lay a charge so quickly - because she knows him! It probably says enough of "dad"!

      robynaudrey - 2012-01-17 13:25

Oh come on!!!!!! Because he didn't kill his child we should be proud of him? Is that what we have become?

      elphaas.mgiba - 2012-01-17 13:41

@robynaudrey, did you study at Turkies (University of Pretoria)not surprised - I thought so!

      ronald.stilianou - 2012-01-17 20:53

Deon and kie.....you guys clearly does not have children. Ever stop to think that the father was concerned for the childs wellfare at the mothers place?, maybe in his mind he thought that this is the only way that he could save his child. Nothing is said about the mother.

      GrootWitHaai - 2012-01-17 22:41

Anyone that says he believes Thabo Mbeki has got to get pyschiatric help...period.

      Chantelle - 2012-01-18 08:10

@NAZO A REAL DAD DOES NOT, UNLAWFULLY (YES, IF THERE IS A CUSTODY AND VISITING RIGHTS AGREEMENT IN PLACE, IT IS UNLAWFULL IF YOU BREAK IT) TAKE HIS CHILD AND "HIDE" WITH HER IN A CEILING!!! IMAGINE, A 5 YEAR OLD IN A CEILING... ARE YOU OFF YOUR HEAD? WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING? YOU ATTACK THE REPLIERS NOW PERSONALLY BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO ARGUMENT?

  • lebo.lathane - 2012-01-17 11:28

LOL! It's a real shame when a man has to kidnap his own child.

      koo.doyle - 2012-01-18 10:26

'Has' to? Was there a gun to his head?

  • madsipho - 2012-01-17 11:28

Hold the boat people! What is really happening in this WORLD?

      michelle.mostert - 2012-01-17 20:13

The boat has hit a rock and keeled over.

  • TenRas1 - 2012-01-17 11:37

People must just start solving their problems behind closed doors and leave the media. How come they did call the media 3 minutes before making the babe?

  • Melanie - 2012-01-17 11:37

and i thought i was losing it....

  • Heini - 2012-01-17 11:45

WTF?? I typed in News24 not Ripley's believe it or not!!

  • Oscar - 2012-01-17 11:57

we don't have all the details people - maybe the dad had a reason to kidnap her?

      Deon - 2012-01-17 12:27

Spiting the wife is not a reason.

      Chantelle - 2012-01-18 08:12

CHEESE AND RICE... i cant believe you would actually say that??? do you remember the story about catherine krog... whose baby was kidnapped by her ex? and a few months later he shot her dead then turned the gun on himself? wow... people need to think

      keith.murphy.9638 - 2012-07-09 13:36

The mother might be on drugs ( Tik) or smoking weed thats why dad left with kid.A story has two side like a coin

  • Shirley - 2012-01-17 12:05

It is sad when parents have to resort to this because at the end of the day the child suffers most!

  • agueorguiev - 2012-01-17 12:06

Whoa! When did the law change? A few short years ago, i got told "it's not kidnapping if it's his own child..." They're estranged, not divorced. Is there (not) a difference? What is/was the Court's custody ruling,then..if he was charged with kidnapping, I wonder..

      elphaas.mgiba - 2012-01-17 12:12

The media used the wrong headline again!

      Nico - 2012-01-17 12:47

Abduction is the word they are looking for.

      Chantelle - 2012-01-18 08:13

@ague and @nazo... did not use the wrong headline.. if they are separated and a custody agreement is in place, if he breaks it, it is unlawful and therefore consequences apply - father or not - if you unlawfully take your child, it is kidnapping.

  • Sue-Ellen - 2012-01-17 12:12

Is this the messures fathers have to go too, to spend time with there kids....I feel so sorry for the father, he is clearly only wanting more time with his kid.

      Squeegee - 2012-01-17 18:23

Really? How do you know? How do you know for a fact that he's not a druggie, or a child molester? How do you know its not about hurting his wife. Sperm donation does not make you a good father!

      Warrick - 2012-01-18 00:34

Why jump to conclusions Squeegee? There is hardly any information in this article to determine weather this man is dangerous or not... This sounds like more of a custody issue than an actual "crime"

      Chantelle - 2012-01-18 08:14

@warrick and sue ellen GO SEARCH FOR CATHERINE KROG ON THE INTERNET.. THIS SOUNDS JUST LIKE HER CASE! HER EX KIDNAPPED HER CHILD. A FEW MONTHS LATER HE SHOT HER DEAD...

      keith.murphy.9638 - 2012-07-09 13:37

maybe the mother is a tik kop

      nicolaas.baker - 2012-07-10 21:19

@Squeegee, The thing is like this, they estranged, this useless wifes want child support but spend it all on her new boyfriend. She refuse to let the father see the child for longer periods if he does not pay more child support. The child suffer because the useless mother spends all he rmoney on a drug addict of a boyfriend. In order to give the child proper food and clothing, the father went to fetch the child, and decided to keep her a little bit longer to assure her that he still oves her and takes care of her. The useless mother decided, ok your bastard, to spite you, I will say you kidnapped the child because you do not want to give me more money. TYhe mother most probably realised that the child has not been returned many hours after she came back from the shebeen. That is what most of them do today, they under the impression that the child support from the father is there for them to entertain or buy their new boyfriends, to buy clothes, drugs and alcohol and maybe, a packet of 50c chips with a cheap juice for the child!

  • eradingoana - 2012-01-17 12:40

These are the stupid SA Laws. The man possibly pays maintenance but have to get limited access to his daughter. The woman might have been influence by the revenge motives or his new boyfriend. What a hell of a woman? Surely the man regrets having involved with that woman from hell.

      AmuseMePLs - 2012-01-17 13:50

how about u stop speculating and look at the facts that have been presented to u. cos if we start speculating then maybe the man is not even paying maintenance and yet get access to a child he doesnt have a clue how she survive. and perhaps the man has been an abusive pig to the mother hence y he get limited access. and perhaps the poor woman cant even have a new boyfriend due to the emotional and physical scars that have been left from the result of that abuse. then we say wht a hell of a man to risk his own child by hiding her in a ceiling. then with all that speculation surely the woman regrets ever having being involved with a monster or should i say Lucifer himself.

      Tania - 2012-01-17 14:36

      You have a wonderful imagination!!!!

      ronald.stilianou - 2012-01-17 20:59

      Both of you...

  • Jeremy - 2012-01-17 12:52

It's almost funny. The laws are supposed to protect children and victims of spousal abuse, instead they create a confusing situation which quite literally drives men (and probably their children) insane. Gender based violence will stop when we recognise that a father is a parent, just like a mother. Mothers are not more important than fathers. IT' WRONG AND IT IS CREATING MORE AND MORE WRONG.

  • ivan.coetzee2 - 2012-01-17 13:26

This is really a sad situation for all concerned, I hope the courts will be lenient, he obviously loves his daughter very much, and probably has a problem dealing with the mom. Hope they work it out.

as a woman i dont believe a woman can own a child...the man is the one who made it possible for that baby to come to life...he is the the one who sweet talked that lady into going to bed with him..he is the one who made love to the lady...he is the one who released the baby into the woman...how come when the child grows the man will no longer have access to his product...for goodness sake a woman is only a witness to a man when the child is made....let the cops allow the orange farm dad go home with his daughter......( i wish my fellow women will sit back n correct this injustice meted out at men)

      Sue-Ellen - 2012-01-17 13:46

      amen sister

      elphaas.mgiba - 2012-01-17 13:47

jackky, wish you were the judge who will be handling this case!

      AmuseMePLs - 2012-01-17 14:36

Jacky you are surely not a mother and dont even have a clue of how a child is born. cos if u did i wouldnt be reading such nonsense from you. firstly it takes 9 months for a child to be born, during that 9 months a woman experiences all these discomforts but yet hold on because she wants that healthy child to arrive safely. then to top it all go thru such an excruciating pain just for that child to be born and when she holds her in her arms instead of crying tears of pain she releases tears of joy. but i guess u wouldnt understand. hence y u claim a child is a man's product. until you become a mother urself thru natural birth u will call a baby angel a product. u r such a disgrace to women. its women like you that do abortions and abandon kids cause you think of them as products of men.

      Squeegee - 2012-01-17 18:26

Whenyou turn 14 or wake up, rewrite this comment.

  • alexandra.cowling - 2012-01-17 14:08

We don't have enough evidence or trusted information to pass any judgement on this situation. I do however find it interesting that the response time of the authorities around this case, it seems very fast. Just ask any dad who has open a case against their ex-wife/girlfriend for withholding access, AGAINST a specific court order... authorities don't do anything.

  • EyesEars - 2012-01-17 14:12

@ Nazo2010. If you have facts more facts than the media, is this your way of telling the rest of the world, or is "your facts" based on your opinion? It could have easily gone the other way as well.

  • Oscar - 2012-01-17 14:18

why are people always so quick to judge the fathers? Maybe this father had a very good reason for doing what he did. wait for all the facts before judging him

  • Randomhero6661 - 2012-01-17 14:31

His wife was probably being a cow and didnt let him see his child... she should go to jail... lol! JK

  • Nicole - 2012-01-18 09:14

I 21 now and my dad passed away in 2001 but my parents were separated and my dad also didn't bring me home when he said he was going to but i realised that if you dont have your child living with you it makes you do crazy things....it's the love for their children that make them want to take them and never let them go again!! Give the man a break i highly doubt he would murder his child he just wanted to keep her with him because only parents who are separated with kids will understand the pain of not being able to wake up and see your daughter laying in bed or watching her grow up kills you day by day and that pain makes parents do things they wouldn't normally do! Who are we to judge a fathers love for his child???

  • psebetlela - 2012-01-18 10:09

@ AmuseMePLs ;am a proud mother of 2 boys,i love them so much, they mean the whole world to me but that doesn't stop me from acknowledging the fact that my ex boy friend is the legitimate owner of those kids..they live with me cause my ex don't have time to look after them, but he,ve got every right on earth to come and see them or even take them home and whatever amount of time he want, they bore his family name and recognizes my ex's family as their legitimate family...so "AmuseMePLs" if you like call me anything but it cannot stop me from telling my boys who they really are.my mum separated with my dad when i was young but mum allowed me enjoy dads love and care.about 9monts it takes b4 birth...don't 4get that a man has been carrying million of those babies since when he was 15 and when he released just one to me to assist him hold it for just 9 months i didn't see is as a big deal.and when its my time for labour i didn't find it difficult to release what he gave me back to him.
