Temba, North West - A 26-year-old woman from the Marico village of Mathibestad is to appear in court on Monday for allegedly chaining her 12-year-old daughter to a bed for weeks.
North West police said on Sunday the woman is to be charged with child abuse and child neglect.
She was arrested on Saturday after police received a tip-off from a neighbour and went to investigate the matter, said Inspector Tyrone Seate.
He said although the girl was uninjured, she was admitted to hospital for treatment.
Police suspect the abuse has been going on for a period of about five years.
She will appear in the Temba magistrate's court on Monday.
