Cape Town - A man from Grabouw in the Western Cape has been jailed for 30 years for a brutal assault that took place in front of the woman’s 17-year-old daughter.

Ian October, 44, admitted to raping and killing neighbour Eunice Steyn, 41, whom he invited over to his house for a night of socialising, reported the Cape Argus.

He later assaulted her, bashed her head against the wall, tied her up and raped her with a stick in front of the woman’s daughter and his own 14-year-old daughter and her friend.

After the attack, October cleaned up the blood, dressed Steyn and dragged her outside.

She died at about 11:00 the following day and October was arrested.

October told the court that he regretted his actions and that although he was under the influence, he was aware of his actions and felt remorse.

He pleaded guilty to three charges of rape as well as murder and assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm.
