Cape Town - Two brothers who died in a car accident over the weekend were each other’s best friend and would be buried together.
Their father, Frits Meintjies snr, spoke about the accident that claimed the lives of Frits jnr, 23, and Berno, 20, reported Die Burger.
“My sons were each other’s best friends. They did everything together. Fished together, hunted, did gymkhana and played rugby,” he said. Both were members of the Western Province gymkhana team.
The boys had been travelling back to Bloemfontein, where both were studying, after a holiday at home in Malmesbury.
Their Golf GTI was involved in a head-on collision with a Mercedes-Benz, the driver of which was also killed in the collision.
The brothers’ bull terriers that were in the car with them also died in the accident.
Chris Fourie, principal of the Hoër Landbouskool Boland in Paarl, where both had matriculated, said the brothers were friendly and caring boys.
“They were popular among friends and teachers and took part in several activities.”
