Death toll rises in KZN accident
Durban - The number of people killed in a crash on the road between Kokstad and Umzimkulu rose to 12 on Tuesday with the death of a teenager in hospital, the KwaZulu-Natal health department said.
Ten adults and a 5-year-old child died on Monday when a truck and a Toyota Venture collided on the R56 road, said provincial road traffic management spokesperson Sinhle Mngomezulu.
A 12-year-old girl injured in the accident was taken to the Edendale Hospital, in Pietermaritzburg, but died on Tuesday morning, said health department spokesperson Chris Maxon.
A 10-year-old boy was still in a critical condition in the same hospital.
Mngomezulu said it was not clear which vehicles the injured and dead were in. The Toyota Venture was not a registered taxi.
