Denosa picket at court
Johannesburg – Scores of nurses picketed outside the Lydenburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday when two men appeared for allegedly killing an Mpumalanga nurse and injuring her mother.
Jackson Patrick Mdluli, 37, and Zondi Motau, 31, were appearing for a formal bail application.
"We believe these men are dangerous. We are opposing bail and pushing for the maximum penalty," said Democratic Nursing Organisation of SA (Denosa) provincial secretary Silence Matsane.
He said many nurses from surrounding hospitals were picketing at the courthouse.
The nurse and her mother were shot in mid-September, allegedly by relatives of a patient she cared for at Lydenburg Hospital.
