Cape Town - Honeymoon murder accused Shrien Dewani has charmed the staff and other patients at his current home, Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital, it was reported at the weekend.

The Weekend Argus reported that the 34-year-old Briton smiled and joked with others at the Cape Town hospital and they are now smitten.

However, the Sunday Times also reported that Dewani was sent for treatment on Friday after he “freaked” when a hospital employee moved his bed, causing it to squeak.

Doctors and nurses took him away for treatment and only returned him hours later.

Police and medical staff have been monitoring Dewani around the clock through a one-way glass window in his ward, reported the newspaper.

The British millionaire made a 10-minute appearance in a packed Western Cape High Court room last week, where his case was postponed until 12 May.

He will remain in custody at the hospital until then.
