Dina: Cop says suspect wept

2006-04-04 19:34

Cape Town - The killer of six-month-old baby Jordan-Leigh Norton wept when he admitted stabbing the child in June last year, Cape Town High Court was told on Tuesday.

Mongezi Bobotyana had seemed sad and had grieved when interviewed, inspector Willem Muller told the court.

He made his admission even after being fully informed of his rights in his home language of Xhosa, said Muller.

He also took police to his accomplice, Sipho Mfazwe, although he knew he was not obliged to do so.

Bobotyana and Mfazwe are on trial for the murder with Zanethemba Gwada, a minor who may not be named, and Dina Rodrigues.

The five also face charges of conspiracy to commit murder, aggravated armed robbery, and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Rodrigues, who is thought to have masterminded the murder, faces an additional charge of intimidation relating to threatening SMS messages.

Woman 'had paid for the murder'

It is claimed she sent these to the slain baby's father, Neil Wilson, who was her lover at the time of the killing.

In his testimony on Tuesday, Muller told the court that when Bobotyana said he wanted to come clean about what had happened, he was taken to a magistrate to make his confession.

Muller said that Mfazwe admitted involvement in the murder, but maintained he did not kill the baby himself.

Mfazwe told him a white woman (Rodrigues) had paid him for the infant's murder.

Muller told the court Mfazwe had also wanted to tell the full story of what happened and also was taken to a magistrate to do so.

The case continues on Wednesday.

barabus2012 says... @Mathibela - have you ever wondered why whites treat indians differently to blacks? Or perhaps why they treat chinese differently? Hell, i even treat zimbaweans different to you south african blacks. Why? Because of the hatred you have for us. All of us. Whether we were involved in apartheid or not. You've painted all of us with the same brush. And as a result, i've painted all of you with the same brush, which is thanks to the anc, you're corrupt, non caring, racist, lying commies. And until you change you attitudes, i will treat you they way you deserve. with contempt. All my work force is zimbaweans. Not one south african. I support them, pay their rent. Subsidise their kids schooling. Hell, i even bought cattle in zim for their retirement. And what a pleasure it is. Why? Cause they are greatful and make good friends. So, change or not, i dont really care. Soon you will be the talk of africa. Just like nigerians are seen to be scammers (apologies to the good ones)... you'll be seen to be lazy, no good freeloaders. Its already happening. Read the article...
