Dina Rodrigues celebrates 3rd graduation

2012-05-15 10:14

Cape Town - Dina Rodrigues, who is serving a life sentence for the murder of baby Jordan-Leigh Norton, appears to be getting on well with her life in prison.

Die Burger reported that Rodrigues received a certificate for computer literacy and life skills at Pollsmoor Prison on Monday.

She was also the top female student in her class.

Rodrigues appeared well-groomed, with flawless make-up and dressed in a white blouse and black skirt.

In 2010 Rodrigues also received a diploma for basic education and in 2008 she was awarded a BComm degree.

Rodrigues has already served five years of her sentence but will only be coming up for parole in 20 years.

A diploma for basic education? And whose children is she gonna teach? She should not be allowed anywhere near children.

      Finza - 2012-05-15 10:33

      Hahahaha

      Darren - 2012-05-15 11:45

      she's wasting our money!

      nasheenar - 2012-05-15 12:52

Oh how lucky she is! Pity baby Jordan Leigh wont have that opportunity. B..... should have been hung!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not graduating top of the class. Who is paying for those classes.People that pay tax and stay out of prison pay for their own studies.

  • zaytoon.waja - 2012-05-15 10:22

She needs to do some hard labour and toil away. She can smile at her achievement...little chance did poor Michael have... May he RIP ! Despite the looks of this pic and her achievements. Hope she rots in jail !!!!

      Christelle - 2012-05-15 10:24

      Michael??

      Frans - 2012-05-15 10:30

Jordan Leigh Norton. Where does Michael fits in?

      Marion - 2012-05-15 10:46

@zaytoon - apart from the Michael faux pas, agree with what you say.

  • chris.debeer1 - 2012-05-15 10:25

I don not remember the case. But must commend her on using this time fruitfully to rebuild herself to be a better citizen. Yes she did a crime she is doing the time most of all she is working on her rehabilitation. Good luck lady.

      vlarismam - 2012-05-15 10:45

Sure, but are we, the tax payers, paying for this? I would much rather she be doing manual labour, like filling potholes, making bricks... or building houses for the poor

      Lorain - 2012-05-15 10:52

@ vlarismam could not have said it better myself. @ Chris.deBeer1 she should have maybe thought of getting diplomas beforehand instead of ordering hits on babies.

      Merven - 2012-05-15 10:54

'In 2005, Dina began her affair with Neil Wilson; he hid the fact that he has a love child and when Dina found out she went into a murderous rage. She paid hit men to “make the problem go away”.' http://www.powcorp.com/title/view/710/dina-rodrigues-evil-personified/ She must rot in jail. How can you let a innocent baby be killed?

      Deon - 2012-05-15 11:56

Getting people to murder a baby was lower than low. She should never get out.

      nasheenar - 2012-05-15 12:56

She plotted and planned and had a little baby murdered with a screw driver. The baby was asleep in the cot when the guys posing as couriers over powered the maid and stabbed the baby. WHY cos she was in love with the babies father. Hope you feel the same now chris.

      Bruce - 2012-05-15 13:38

My children had to take out bank loans to get their degrees. Now they have to work to pay them off. They can't keep on doing more diplomas!

  • Citroes - 2012-05-15 10:26

She is going to be extremely well qualified and yet totally unemployable when (if) she gets out.

      Marion - 2012-05-15 10:50

Guess she'll change her name. But she will get employed (Marlene Lehnberg works as a hairdresser now doesn't she?) whereas law abiding citizens who do not have the benefit of studying further will remain unemployed.

  • Finza - 2012-05-15 10:28

Prison is a place 2 be,u commite crime den u get beta education...life is gud

  • Pule - 2012-05-15 10:30

    Who cares????

  • porshe.vrebec - 2012-05-15 10:33

you're still are top class killer though, also get some selfhelp book. taking are childs live the way you did was not cool at all.i wish you the best, now it take are jail term to staighten other brainless human being to do good in life mmmmmm.....!!

      randomhero6661 - 2012-05-15 11:18

      jesus, i struggled reading that!

  • Sulette Behnke - 2012-05-15 10:43

They should employ prisoners as government workers in jail with little or no compensation, it will sure help the economy. Will make licenses and Id apps go faster, and not give them a sense of they're becoming someone. Another thing, should you go to jail for free education ? Is it a perk for murdering a child who would never have the oppertunity to read write or love ? Gotta love this country

      randomhero6661 - 2012-05-15 11:25

we don't live in the 16th century anymore, like it or not a murderer is still a human being.

      annemarie.kleynhans1 - 2012-05-15 13:12

@randomhero, I'm sorry but I can't agree with you, anyone who murders a innocent baby can surely not be a 'human being', more like a human plague.

      randomhero6661 - 2012-05-15 15:12

      C'est la vie.

  • Carla - 2012-05-15 10:44

I fail to see the logic in this current system of ours. She is responsible for the murder of an innocent child, yet she allowed to study further and graduate?????

      Gcwabe.KaMavovo - 2012-05-15 11:21

It's called a "correctional facility" for a reason. The aim is to rehabilitate those who can be rehabilitated.

      anthro45 - 2012-05-15 11:25

I would rather educate myself whilst in jail and try and better myself than to be an uneducated criminal running this country. And why must she sit for 25 years while others only do 1 to 5 years? And I am not condoning her crime.

      Carla - 2012-05-15 12:48

There should not be an option of rehabilitation for child killers, molesters, murderers and rapists. How is she paying for her crime by getting to study and further her education? Where is the justice in that?

      elize.vankerckhoven - 2012-05-16 09:36

      Yes at the taxpayers expense!!

  • Marion - 2012-05-15 10:45

You can get a thousand diplomas, but as far as I am concerned I never want to see you released back into society. How you can still smile after what you did is beyond me. It's times like this that I could support the death penalty because no one would ever have to see that you are happy after depriving a baby of its chance to smile and enjoy life.

      Lorain - 2012-05-15 10:54

@ Marion ofcourse she can still smile she has never ever shown any sign of remorse. i think the she got the basic education diploma just to taunt parents.

      nasheenar - 2012-05-15 13:10

Couldnt agree with you more Marion. What she needs to do is reflect on her actions and feel awful. No guilt there.

  • Bronwyn - 2012-05-15 10:51

Ridiculous! She should never be allowed to study! What kind of punishment is that when how many of our intelligent people who have done NOTHING wrong are unable to further their studies through lack of funds!! Unreal! BTW peopel it you and I that pay for her studies....!!!

  • Carolyn - 2012-05-15 11:07

This lady should get bread and water for the rest of her life, in a room with no windows. She has no right to complete anything for any reason

  • nishan.sitlu - 2012-05-15 11:17

Don't worry, us taxpayers will sponsor your education...

  • Sharon - 2012-05-15 11:20

Bring back a proper penal system, chain gangs and working for your keep. Why must the tax payer keep them to "educate" themselves? She had an education while she was younger and obvously didn't elarn anything! Plenty they could do like pick up the litter all day and make SA cleaner.

  • Shirley - 2012-05-15 11:24

Murder an innocent child and receive a free education??? Does this sound like a sentence of punishment to the lawmakers?Jail is supposed to be hard, make you think of your crime every day and take away ALL comforts you might of enjoyed!!!!! This is a slap in the face of justice!!!!

  • revaro.winkler - 2012-05-15 11:29

my god the country provides free education for prisoners but the man on the streeth are not even seen

  • Lois - 2012-05-15 12:02

This is the most depressing story I have read in a long time!!! How does someone who plots the murder of an innocent baby get the chance to earn all these degrees and diplomas??? And to add insult to injury, she does not have to pay for her studies and has all the time in the world to get them!!! No matter how many titles she may aquire in her ill gained life, the fact that she is a baby killer will always be her nemesis.

      Shirley - 2012-05-15 12:15

Agree fully! Her quality of life continues to grow-her victim never had a chance!

  • Craig Patterson - 2012-05-15 12:17

do the math: when she gets out she'll be approaching 50 , a single white female with a criminal record , trying to get a job ..... we've been done this road. ok so she'll have a few diplomas , and maybe she can start her own business , but she'll need capital to do that, and no bank will give you money once they've done a background check on you. So she's screwed , she may as well just stay in there . Damn its not fair that i had to pay so much for my studies , and now i'm paying for the likes of her . That sucks !

  • Ever - 2012-05-15 13:20

A diploma in LIFE Skills for a killer? WTF????

  • sharon.a.galbraith - 2012-05-15 14:49

What happened to free education for children they still waiting and some cannot go to school because there is no money...But a murderer is getting free education People are starving and yet we waste money on the likes of Dina R. we do they learn what they have done is wrong what punishement is she getting????????????

      Bianca-Anne - 2012-05-15 17:32

You call their opportunities skills developing or Service Providers that are clever enough to use this as a tool to enrich themselves whereby there are thousands of youth that will not be able to study next year. Unfair I will say.

  • maryanne.douws - 2012-05-15 14:58

Let's all put everything in Gods hands,bt gudlck to her on her future studies hope her Heart is clean!!

  • Bianca-Anne - 2012-05-15 17:29

Baby Jordan-Leigh Norton will never laugh or have any opportunity - he has passed away by her hand. Who is benefiting from her studies? The Service Provider maybe getting money for skills development in Prisons? To be realistic: achieving the a Certificate In Basic Education (working with children), BComm Degree, Certificate in Computer Literacy and Life Skills - for whose benefit... she should stay in jail for calling a hit on a BABY! Yes, when she get's out, she might be in her 50's or 40's or soon as things is going in house-arrest (newest thing for murderers that are top achievers in jail) will the death of Baby Jordon still be - he has no opportunities and his family will forever miss him. Hope she stays in jail forever... but that is not happening either.

  • Lee - 2012-05-16 07:38

I agree with the hard labour idea. There are many out there who cannot afford to study or have no option but to take out student loans. Is our tax money paying for this education? Once again it seems crime pays!

  • Clayton Richard Delport - 2012-05-16 08:30

anthony - first off all go back to school recieve a proper education, mafia wars is a game not real life, if you cant tell the difference between the two then you deserve to be in weskoppies, seriously that was your argument? you sir are a idiot! and bones im angry because she killed her child and now is benifiting from that, our so called democracy and constitution allows criminals to be rewarded? and btw even if i am full of anger it doesnt mean im going to commit a crime, i unlike you people i know the difference between right and wrong, i stick to my previous comments and i have no sympathy for a criminal, and anthony if you want to have a big boy conversation please dont blame video games

  • Ronel Smit - 2013-07-09 21:21

She murders a baby in cold blood!!!! She does not deserve to be happy or gain anything in prison! Let's all murder and go to jail, and become doctors ect..... This is where I say. Bring back death penalTy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jessica Maier Gouws - 2013-07-10 20:12

OH so you can viciously kill an innocent child, go to prison live of OUR tax money and be allowed to educate yourself? Prison means punishment for your crimes, exclusion from the outside world, else she might as well be under house arrest! I hope she can strike a deal with her God else she deserves to burn in hell!

  • Susan Marais - 2015-05-23 22:00

She must stay right where she is.....in jail. I presume its not a pleasant place to be - its not supposed to be!

  • Del Pearson - 2015-05-24 08:11

It is so unfair that criminals are celebrated for achievements. There are millions of people achieving every day and they do not get media attention. SICK

  • Colette Giquel Rossouw - 2015-05-24 20:53

what a friggin joke! Life skills??? "LIFE" - something she took away from an innocent baby?! How SICK is that? Almost like she's making a mockery of it. Our tax money to teach a murderer how to give life... when she took it so easily. SICK SICK SICK

  • Trevor Benson - 2015-05-27 11:14

I am a believer in Jesus Christ and I am glad she is rehabilitated, but the fact that she is comfortable in prison is really unacceptable. When will people ever learn if they can commit murder, are sentenced and live comfortably in prison, while the victims sometimes don't even have bread on their tables(if some even have tables). This woman killed a baby and are now studying for free in prison, achieves degrees and live the "good" life, when she killed an innocent child. In the "FREE" country, we must pay for everything we wna achievn but in prison, we live like royalty; we even have media-exposure. This is utter nonsence!!! I blame it on the current government systems we have and CHANGE must come! If this is freedom, then I don't want it!!!

  • Rose van Wyk - 2015-06-17 09:03

    This is really ridiculous!

  • Rubeena Rubz Mahomed - 2015-06-17 19:09

Sick sick laws im this country

  • Rubeena Rubz Mahomed - 2015-06-17 19:10

    Horrible weird woman...

  • Bronwen Hughes Duplessis - 2015-06-17 21:26

A young baby lost her life !!! This evil woman has shown no remorse !!!

  • Bernadette Ford - 2015-06-17 22:15

I dont care wot ppl say abt her she must rote in jail I fellow that case and k pray ever day that she gets 20years or more and she did thanx god 4 that so ppl god keep her their Amen

  • Guy Reid - 2015-07-03 18:08

A crime of great passion. Incredibly foolish and cruel, but clearly a crime of passion committed by a highly emotional, jealous, love struck, immature young woman who is probably no longer a danger to society. At some point the Norton family must forgive her and set themselves free....
