Dog digs up dead baby

Kimberley - Police in Griekwastad have opened an inquest docket after a local man found his dog dragging a baby's corpse across his lawn, Northern Cape police said on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Inspector Batsile Wolfe said the owner was surprised by his discovery on Tuesday morning.

"It is not known from where the dog dug up the baby," said Wolfe.

He said the baby was thought to be about five days old.

Police transported the body to a local mortuary where a post mortem would be held to determine the baby's sex, among other things.

Police have asked the public to come forward with information that could help with the investigation.
