Pretoria - Two men were saved from raging waters during one of five dramatic rescues as stormy weather left Gauteng soaked.

People stopped to watch the rescue of the two men who were caught in the Hennops River in Centurion after it burst its banks, overflowed into roads and cutting off traffic on Monday, The Pretoria News reported.

The men were trapped for about four hours.

One of the men was caught under a bridge while the other climbed a tree.

One of the men, Richard, was treated for shock, trauma and hypothermia.

Another man, his wife and 7-month-old son had to abandon the man’s car after it got caught in flash floods near a bridge.
Emergency management services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said two men and a woman were rescued from a stream in flood in Naledi, Soweto, by local residents, Sapa reported.

The three had been swept away by a strong current as they were trying to cross the river.

The rains will start to ease off from Tuesday morning and only isolated showers were expected until Thursday, the SA Weather Service said. - News24 and Sapa
