Johannesburg - Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Wayne
Minnaar said on Tuesday that the driver of an 18-wheeler truck involved in a
crash which left five people dead on Tuesday had been arrested.
The five, including a baby, were killed when the vehicles
caught fire after the accident in Kibler Park, south of Johannesburg.
Minnaar said the driver had been charged with five counts
of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving.
"He is currently being held at the Mondeor police
station," Minnaar said.
A spokesperson for Johannesburg's emergency services,
Robert Mulaudzi, said the victims had been burnt beyond recognition.
"Seven others were treated at the accident scene
before they were transported to several hospitals.
Fire-fighters battled for several hours to contain the
blaze.
Mulaudzi said the truck had not been carrying flammable
goods.
