Driver dies as truck overturns

2012-02-14 18:00
Kimberley - A truck driver was killed and his passenger was seriously injured when their truck overturned near Postmasburg, in the Northern Cape, paramedics said on Tuesday.

The accident happened on the R385 between Kimberley and Postmasburg on Monday evening, said ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks.

Paramedics found the truck lying on its side. The driver was declared dead on the scene.

His passenger, believed to be in his late 20s, complained of pain to his shoulder, neck and hip. Hydraulic equipment was used to reach him in the cabin.

He was taken to Postmasburg Hospital in a serious, but stable condition.

Banks said it was not clear what caused the driver to lose control of the truck.
