Cape Town - The driver of a security van was fatally wounded in a cash-in-transit heist in Khayelitsha on the Cape Flats on Monday morning, said police.
Captain Adriaan Saulse said a gang of four men attacked a vehicle collecting money at an Engen garage on the corner of Lansdowne Road and Capital Drive about 11:20.
They shot the driver, and made off with his gun and cash, he said.
The driver's colleague was unhurt.
The robbers fled in a white Opel Astra which was allegedly hijacked in Langa on Sunday night.
Saulse declined to name the cash company, as the guard's next-of-kin had not yet been told of his death.
