Durban - A man was killed when he was flung from his car which had rolled repeatedly on the N2 near Newlands East in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The man’s bloodied body was found near the wreckage, which had skidded to a halt on its roof.

Crisis Medical spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said that medics had rushed to the scene, which had left most of the northbound carriageway obstructed.

“The cause of the crash [and] the events leading up to it remain uncertain, but considering what we found at the scene it is most likely that the vehicle had been travelling away from the city towards Umhlanga when it hit the roadside barrier under the Inanda Bridge,” he said.

“The force of this impact caused the car to overturn and roll several times, at which point we believe that the driver, the only occupant, was flung from the wreckage.”

Van Reenen said that the man had sustained critical injuries and had died prior to the arrival of medics.

“He was declared dead and the... scene was handed over to the relevant traffic authorities who commenced with their investigations. Traffic was obstructed while this was done.”
