Johannesburg - Motorists should avoid the city centres of Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban from late on Wednesday morning when workers take to the streets to protest against rising living costs, traffic officials said.
The main protest march in Pretoria will see road closures from 11:00 until 16:00 as members of the Congress of SA Trade Unions march from the city hall to the Union Buildings.
The streets that will be affected include Paul Kruger, Visagie, Vermeulen and Van der Walt, said Pretoria's traffic control room.
In Cape Town, roads will not be closed but motorists are advised to avoid the route from Keizersgracht Road to Adderley Street at Parliament where workers will march from late morning.
Durban Metro spokesperson Superintendent Joyce Khuzwayo said West street and all roads crossing West street will be closed.
"I would say motorists should avoid the area from 09:00 onwards," said Khuzwayo.
Johannesburg Metro spokesperson Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the city would not be affected.
"There is no march in Johannesburg and there will be no road closures. In fact, Johannesburg traffic should be better than usual because there will be fewer vehicles on the road," said Minnaar.
