Zuma tackles drug issues in Eldorado Park

During a visit to Eldorado Park in Johannesburg, President Jacob Zuma promised to tackle the drug problem rampant in the community. Watch.WATCH

Johannesburg - A total of 13 608 people have been arrested since the inception of Drug Watch in Gauteng in June, police said on Tuesday.

Brigadier Neville Malila said in a statement the arrests were made during police operations in the province.

"A variety of drugs estimated [to be worth] R5m have been seized since the launch of Drug Watch, and we are closing the net on drug lords and [drug] manufacturers in Gauteng province," Malila said.

On Monday, police arrested a 25-year-old man in Krugersdorp for possession of drugs and manufacturing drugs, after police found crystal methamphetamine and chemicals on his property.

Crime Line head Yusuf Abramjee said tip-off's received from members of the public were making a difference in the fight against drugs.
