Drug woman's paralysis a mystery

2012-03-06 09:13
Durban - Ugandan authorities have arrested a man for supplying contaminated cocaine to a South African woman and an American TV producer two weeks ago.

Amazing Race producer Jeff Rice died in his hotel room after taking the drug, while Kathryne Fuller was found unconscious. Once she regained consciousness she was briefly detained by Ugandan authorities, reported the Daily News.

After pleading guilty to possession of drugs last Thursday, Fuller was released and flown home to South Africa to get treatment.

She is paralysed in the right side of her body and has lost motor skills. She is apparently unable to sit or stand and is kept sedated because she is in a lot of pain.

She is able to talk a bit, said a family spokesperson.

Doctors at Entabeni Hospital in Durban are said to be stumped about her condition.

They are still running tests to find out what is causing the paralysis.

We have been taught that we need three meals a day in order to make it through the day and while most of us indulge in more than our fair share there is a large portion of South Africans who are living off barely enough to sustain them.
