2011-04-11 12:46

Johannesburg - Three metro police officers were seriously injured in Johannesburg after a suspected drunk driver crashed into their vehicle, a spokesperson said on Monday.

Two women from the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) and one male officer were injured in an accident after finishing duty at the alcohol evidence centre in Randburg on Sunday evening, said chief superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

"The vehicle they were in collided with another car and the driver of that other car was drunk," he said.

The three officers and the driver of the other car were seriously injured and hospitalised.

The accident happened around 23:00 along Modderfontein Road in Glen Austin, Midrand.

Minnaar said all four people were still in hospital on Monday morning.

"A blood sample has been taken for a case of drunken driving to be opened," he said.

The vehicle they were in collided with another car and the driver of that other car was drunk," he said. Confusing article... First paragraph and heading states drunk driver drove into cops.... This quoted paragraph states cops car drove itself into drunk drivers car??? Its the cars fault no human error involved??? Hope for cops sake insurance company also sees it this way!

You need to change your nom de plume if you find the article confusing. It is poorly written but certainly not confusing!

The case could beother way around, as you know how SA is - they were both hurt as it's the reason why they never wrisled him after the acident.

At least 80% of their work at the "alcohol evidence centre" had been eliminated as they have been taking their work home, or their work had been taking them home... Either they collided into the vehicle of a drunk guy, or a drunk guy "crashed" into them. One thing is for sure! You have been colliding with the wrong department if you were drunk! As "a" blood sample had been taken, one can only hope it was from the right person?

Indeed. It is a prolific occurrence in South Africa, that as soon as you don a uniform you become an executive arm of the repressive despotism.

i dont usually have much sympathy for traffic cops, but on this occasion, I do. Flipping drunk drivers make me sick. Hope he or she rots in hospital.

Shows you how much respect I have for South African police when this makes me laugh

Hello... the 3 police officers were "finishing duty at the alcohol evidence centre in Randburg on Sunday evening". This to me is a bit wierd????? and the other driver was drunk?

Cops finished work at alcohol lab in Randburg/ At 23:00h accident on Moddefontein? Maybe the lab was in their car?

  • James - 2011-04-11 15:26

SA cops might be a bunch of fools but nobody deserves to get hit by a car. it is painful and costly and usually fatal. so i don't see what some of you find so amusing about this.

  • Rustum X - 2011-04-23 14:44

Would it be invalid to make an assumption that it was possible that the metro cops in their "government sanctioned immunity" drove into another vehicle, in which, fortunately for them, the other driver was maintained to be drunk?

Drunk driver, lock him/her up and throw away the key for at least 30 years then maybe just maybe they might learn a lesson.

  • sparky1 - 2011-05-23 20:39

Judging by most comments here , South Africans do not have much respect for there police officers, well as respect is earned maybe you cops out there should take note, the way you do things and the things you do are not earning you the respect your position deserves, maybe you should take a long hard look at yourselves????

The irony...cops going off duty from the alcohol evidence center only to be hit by a drunk driver.... OR...is it?
