Drunk driver kills mom's miracle child

2012-09-20 08:36

Johannesburg - A Gauteng mother who tried for years to have a baby was hit with a new trauma when a drunk driver killed her little boy.

Nombuyiselo Mkhenkcele has not been able to stop crying since the tragedy last Sunday when 6-year-old Anathi died, reported The Star.

Last Sunday a drunk driver crashed into their informal settlement, killing Anathi, 6, and two other children.

A fourth child suffered head injuries.

Mkhenkcele was busy ironing her son’s school uniform when she heard the speeding car approaching, the loud crash and people screaming at Sol Plaatjie settlement in Roodepoort.

The driver of the car was beaten to death by a mob of furious community members.

Empty alcohol bottles were found in the car.

Beaten to death??? Sounds like good justice to me. RIP little ones!

It's right, can't blame the community. What happened to the justice system in this country?

      jacques.stander - 2012-09-20 09:33

      Justice was served !!

this is the way justice is served, no waisting time and money, good for the community, condolences to the mom hope and pray that you find peace someday.

      mable.jacobs.90 - 2012-09-21 09:06

      justice served.case closed.

      wolfgang.keyser - 2012-11-20 17:05

There should be a probe launched as to why he was beaten to death. As much as justice is deserved, imagine the slow death experienced by the driver. BTW, I am deciding whether to become a lawyer. Now before you call me evil bear this in mind. All the South Africans complain about lawlessness, object to the complaint because vigilantism is a form of lawlessness. Now, what if the driver had a passenger? Would of the mob beat him to death as well? Ok, maybe not, but then other bystanders and the passenger/s would of seen the driver being beaten up. They should get counseling. And also in closing your honor these other commentators should have their mouths bound shut when a strike occurs and people are killed or any other losses resulting from strikes. As that is in essence the same attitude as above. Written from a pro-law teenager considering a lawyer as a career.

  • david.barkhuizen - 2012-09-20 11:33

It's a good thing the 'serious' crime stats are down. I wonder whether this mother regards the death of her child as a non-serious crime ?

  • mark.dare.35 - 2012-09-20 11:40

Good on this community for taking this piece of sh*t out. BUT, the community must also blame THEMSELVES for voting the moronic ANC into power again and again as they will in 2014 again. An ANC who dont care about any community and even less about crime. Actions = consequences.

      sphala - 2012-09-20 12:54

Ag! Pls why is it always about ANC this ANC that, this has nothing to do with ANC,anyone has a right to vote for whoever they need, they have their reasons like u do,whether DA or ACDP rules same crap will happen, just because it happened in informal settlement ANC is to be blamed mxm!

  • bongiwe.sethole - 2012-09-20 11:50

  • francois.lutsch - 2012-09-20 20:01

To everybody proclaiming that justice has been served: Unless a post mortem shows conclusive evidence of alcohol in the bloodstream of the driver, it cannot be certain that the driver was in fact drunk. The bottles could easily have been planted in the car after the driver was beaten to death to make it seem justified. It is also worth investigating if the informal dwelling met building regulations. Perhaps it was erected too close to the road and the driver may have had to swerve to avoid something in the road, hitting the shack in the process. While the death of the children is a terrible tragedy, an equally big tragedy is the condoning of the mob murder of the driver by the majority of the supposedly educated commentators here. While most of us are frustrated with the justice system in this country and specifically the non-existence of the death penalty for serious crimes, if you think it is OK for an angry, emotional and possibly misinformed mob to kill a man on impulse in the heat of the moment without consequences then you'd better rethink. It could be you in that car and you could be innocent.

      trevor.tickner - 2012-09-21 07:10

At last the voice of reason. I agree. People (commentators here) don't think: What if I was the sober driver who swerved to miss one kid who ran into the road and hit a group of 4 others instead? Should I expect to be beaten to death?

      rosiegracebrooks - 2012-09-21 10:12

      Indeed.

      wolfgang.keyser - 2012-11-20 17:10

  • lisa.c.Biermann - 2012-09-20 20:23

rest in peace little one's, may your murderer go straight to hell and burn there... another reason why alcohol should be banded... not everyone knows how to control there need for alcohol.. alcohol kills innocent children and everyone around them who is innocent..

      frankflower - 2012-09-21 21:07

Rest in peace, little ONES. Another reason why alcohol should be BANNED. Not everyone knows how to control THEIR alcohol. rip little ones. To the parents, sorry for your very sad loss. God bless.

  • Jacques - 2012-09-21 08:21

Is it just me, or is News24 subtly adding some sensationalism into this headline? After all the hoo-ha about God and miracles not existing on this forum, 'drunk driver kills miracle child'? What makes the kid a mircale child? Sure it's a tragedy of the worst kind, but some liberties seem to have been taken here... But ja. RIP little one!
