Durban Sars closed after fire

2012-02-12 15:48

Durban - The Durban headquarters of the SA Revenue Service (Sars) will be closed on Monday, because of a fire in the building, Sars said on Sunday.

The top floor of the office block caught fire on Saturday night, said Sars spokesperson Adrian Lackay.

Sars rents an office in the basement. Lackay said the office would be closed on Monday as the building's safety still had to be determined. He could not say when it would reopen.

Durban emergency services could not be reached for comment.

The fire happened at 5pm in the Blake building of which SARS rents a basement section. I have it on impeccable authority from a senior Blake director that the top floor, which is completely destroyed by fire was occupied by the NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY.

      And your point being?

Arvin, are you daft? It is not SARS that burned down, or Blake International (multinational that owns the building). The Durban NIA offices were gutted and there appears to be a news black-out about it. The National Intelligence Agency in this building may well have been burned down for a reason. Care to speculate? I can take a stab. Where were the NIA tapes that supposedly exonerated Zuma being held?

If such a tragedy should occur in the future, drain the water from the firetruck resevoir and replace with high octane fuel.
