Durban cops caught with prostitutes

2012-04-12 12:23

Johannesburg - Two Durban constables have been arrested after being caught with prostitutes in their marked police panel van, according to a report on Thursday.

Dog unit metro officers walked up to the van in Clairwood, Durban, around 01:00 on Monday and saw a man in the front seat with a woman crouched on the floor, the Star newspaper reported.

The man pulled out a firearm and tried to drive over the metro police officer before speeding away. A chase ensued.

When the van stopped and the woman tried to run away, the metro officers fired a warning shot and ordered the driver to surrender, but he refused. A police dog was set on him.

According to the report it was only then that the officers noticed another man in the back of the van with another prostitute.

Although they were arrested and taken to a police station, the officers there refused to register them because the practice of free sex with prostitutes - known in police circles as 'num-num' - was common.

A docket was opened two days later.

By the very description of their 'work' prostitutes do not perform for free, thus some form of coercion has taken place, thus the cops should be prosecuted for sexual assault. The fact that this is widespread (no pun intended) is disgusting. No No to Num Num!

There is some of the guys that actually do their job. Especially those that they forgot to promote over the last 18 years or so.

      Frank - 2012-04-12 15:10

whusselmann - April 12, 2012 at 13:34 I do concur that there are many "previously advantaged" cops still fighting the good fight but with the onslaught of the "previously disadvantaged" idiots now adorning the uniform and badge, they become irrelevant in the bigger scheme of things. Sad but true!

  • vuyo.zuccherro.gqwaru - 2012-04-12 12:50

And one wonders why crime statistics do not go down, police officers are busy with leisure while they should be serving and protecting. Government really needs to consider legalising prostitution, then incidences like this one would be less likely to happen, because these prostitutes sleep with police officers to avoid getting arrested. www.spanela.wordpress

Num-num for free, thats ill gotten gains, corruption surely. Widely in practise ? - nothing can shock us anymore. This is a failed state! Prostitution is still against the law. What do they get when they raid illegal shebeens, or apprehend bank robbers, also free spin-offs or share in the ill gotten gains?

  • Nosiphom - 2012-04-12 13:09

As long as prostitution is illegal, the cops will take advantage of the prosties. Criminalising prostitutes does not protect them it leaves them vulnerable! Legalise it.

  • Thabo - 2012-04-12 14:01

People don't know what satisfies them. When people rape, you say it would have been better to have relieved themselves with prostitutes. Now when people go and buy from prostitutes you still complain... Arg! You people are disgusting. You don't know what you want... Finish

      Tyrone - 2012-04-12 14:18

Thabo- your either joking or you are one of the cops that got caught with his pants down. Your coment is so stupid its beyond words. They were cops who :\r\n1) Were on duty\r\n2) Were maried\r\n3) Broke the law\r\n4) Sleeping with hookers while they were supposed to be protecting us all.\r\n\r\nDon't make ridiculous comments. “FINISH“

      LizK - 2012-04-12 14:23

Thabo- prostitution is ILLEGAL. Therefore police officers engaging in sex with prostitutes is ILLEGAL, not to mention grossly hypocritical since they are meant to uphold and defend the law, not break it. So yes, we will complain when our own police officers break the law and then don't suffer any consequences. And yes, we will complain when those same law breakers try to shoot at and drive over the REAL police officers who are doing their jobs correctly.

      Thabo - 2012-04-12 14:35

But come on... It was unfortunate that they got caught. We should not act like we're all perfect at our jobs and as if we never do wrong. Police and others (Metro Police included) do far more evil things than what these guys did. I just don't get it, why should we try to be so harsh on them over just sex! (maybe they wore condoms, and besides people in general cheat and bring illnesses in marriages. Why should we act like these things don't happen...!?)

      Thabo - 2012-04-12 14:36

      Bheki - 2012-04-12 15:02

Thabo yr mom phoned ... she said you going to be in trouble when she gets back from work and see that you were playing around on her PC!! She said I must tell you to go do your homework!!

      LizK - 2012-04-12 15:06

Thabo, if you really can't see the problem with police officers breaking the law then my words will most certainly be lost on you. They were on duty, Thabo! They should be patrolling, keeping citizens safe, not having sex with prostitutes illegally. They shot at other cops who were doing the right thing! What if they had killed or seriously injured that metro police officer?? What if someone was in need of police assistance in that area and those cops didn't show up to help because they were preoccupied - having sex with prostitutes?? If you your boss caught you (or found out about you) having sex with a prostitute while you should be working, I am pretty sure he would fire you immediately. You seriously need to broaden your mind and think of the real implications here.

      Esther - 2012-04-12 16:27

Seems that some people's lives revolve around sex and sex only. Lower than animals, the latter have mating seasons, they do not have sex with every female they come across. The more developed a human being, the more he should be able to control his urges. Where is Darwin to shed a bit of light on this remark ...

  • LizK - 2012-04-12 14:05

Well a huge freaking high five to those Metro cops! As if it isn't enough that they have to risk their lives fighting the average criminal, now they have to dodge the bullets and cars of fellow police officers while they try to do their job- which is upholding the law. It really is sickening.

  • Lance - 2012-04-12 14:08

police work hard they drive early hours past my house while im sleeping. have fun guys you deserve it

  • Thabo - 2012-04-12 14:18

Those Metro police should learn to mind their own business next time. Which is issuing traffic fines and stop taking bribes. Instead they're doing what they aint supposed to put their noses on. Hulle es buie lustig Metros... Finish

      Goggiedol - 2012-04-12 15:02

I am beggining to think that you were one of the NAUGHTY Policeman that were caught...those cops are dumasses for being caught in uniform and in a marked police van.... different story if they were off duty in normal clothes and in a normal unmarked vehicle...it wouldnt be so emabarassing for the country..

      Bheki - 2012-04-12 20:22

      Lunch Bar

      Greg - 2012-04-18 08:02

Thabo - The police are paid by Government, i.e. you and I were paying them to sit in a police van and get lucky with prostitutes, wtf, and the Metro cops were doing something worthwhile, so I really cannot see your argument here!? ...and tell me, with all the crime in SA, what if you or your family were being attacked and it turned out the police in the area, who could've helped you and / or your family were with prostitutes?? Stop being retarded you idiot!!

Threatening a sex worker with arrest unless she has sex with him, is rape. Not free sex, not a perk, not a bribe, but rape. In a study by the Women's Legal Centre, 70% of sex workers interviewed reported police abuse. We must decriminalise sex work now, end police abuse, harassment rape and corruption. if you want more information, join the Sex Workers Education and Advocacy Taskforce's facebook page (search on face book for our full name)
