Durban court packed for Cato Manor cops

2012-06-21 11:07

Durban - Durban's Regional Court was packed to capacity on Thursday ahead of the bail hearing of 20 members of the now disbanded Durban Organised Crime Unit.

The 20, who stand accused of being part of a hit squad, were arrested on Wednesday in a joint operation by the Hawks and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.

Protesters stood outside the court building with placards in support of the 20 men.

Former national police commissioner Bheki Cele received rousing applause when he entered the public gallery.

There was a heavy police presence in the building and outside.

People were standing outside the court in the hallway because there was insufficient space for supporters and family.

whoever is guilty should be arrested and hopefully sentenced.

      John - 2012-06-21 12:10

They have been arrested. Don't you know that the only purpose of arrest is to present the accused suspect to a magistrate? That's precisely where they are right now!

  • John - 2012-06-21 11:46

Hey it's only a first appearance so the magistrate can determine whether to keep them isolated or let 'em out on bail! It's a high profile case so they are not likely to get bail. They just might start investigating the investigators. HMMM that might be a good idea.

  • John - 2012-06-21 12:20

Come on boys, when you're out on bail suspended on full pay, make it your life's ambition to investigate PANDAY along with any other suspect CORRUPTS. This will take some real detective work and a hell of a lot of guts! Let's see what you are really made of!

These are our hero's who fight hard to get criminals behind bars. The media often publicise too much of negativity which the gullable public believe. Before making negative comments about these cops, look at this case from difdferent perspectives. This is a high risk unit, these cops put their lives on the line everytime they go to work. We need to support them.
