Port Elizabeth - The trial of a former chess coach accused of possession of child pornography was postponed in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, police said.

Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the trial was postponed until August 15.

The 42-year-old father of two faces charges of procuring and possessing child pornography. He was arrested in June and was granted R1 000 bail.

Janse van Rensburg said he had been under investigation since 2009.

Back then, police confiscated his cellphone and his computer on which child pornography was allegedly found after cyber forensic testing.

The docket was sent to the director of public prosecutions, who instructed the investigators to get an affidavit from a district surgeon verifying the ages of those who appeared in the pornography found on the computer.

The man's own children were not in the pictures.
