E Cape police arrest 25 'drunk drivers'
Johannesburg - Police arrested 25 people for drunken driving in an operation in East London at the weekend, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.
They arrested another 75 people for various other crimes including robbery, murder, burglary , theft, malicious damage to property, possession of unlicensed firearms, possession of dagga and being drunk and disorderly in public, said spokesperson Mtati Tana.
Most of the arrests were in and around Duncan Village and in informal settlements in the area, he said.
Seven liquor outlets were closed down for non-compliance with Liquor Act regulations.
"The operations were a huge success and are to continue over the festive season," said Tana.
