Johannesburg - A 40-year-old woman was arrested for murder after she allegedly poured boiling water over her boyfriend, Eastern Cape police said on Saturday.

Spokesperson Jackson Manatha said Julius Mabaso's girlfriend was allegedly boiling water on Thursday evening while he was resting on his bed at their home in Maqele location near the Holela Village in Centane.

"It is alleged that once the water had reached boiling point, the [woman] threw the boiling [water] over the face of the man and also on his stomach."

The 52-year-old man was rushed to Tafalofefe Hospital outside Butterworth on Friday where he died.

The woman was arrested and would appear in the Centane Magistrate's Court on Monday.
