Johannesburg - The defection of a number of Economic Freedom Fighters members to the ANC has resulted in a social media war between EFF secretary general Godrich Gardee and former member Ayanda Tshabalala, with damaging accusations being exchanged.

Former EFF Mpumalanga member of the provincial legislature Tshabalala accused Gardee of allegedly aiming to return to the ANC in exchange for an ambassadorial post, while Gardee in return wrote that Tshabalala begged him to support her ambition to lead the EFF’s women’s wing.

These details have emerged on a heated Facebook exchange the duo had since Tshabalala resigned from the legislature and led a group of about 1 000 members to cross the floor to the ANC last week.

Tshabalala threw the first salvo on her wall today when she said: “The slander, name calling and insults from JEFF [Julius Economic Freedom Fighters] minions... cannot compare to the love and warmth and progressive minds that has [sic] embraced and welcomed us in the ANC and ANCYL. It’s really overwhelming... the name calling will end, it’s unsustainable meanwhile thina siyaqhuba [We’re progressing]... the ANC leads! It feels so good to be part of the winning team... others, their jail beds are being prepared for them.”

Before this post and immediately after Tshabalala had resigned accusing provincial and national leaders of corruption, financial irregularities, autocracy and sexual harassment of female members - Gardee started posting her pictures on his profile.

Tshabalala claimed on her wall that a criminal case of incitement had been opened against Gardee. She also said there was another case opened with the Hawks involving Gardee - allegedly he had a personal bodyguard and chauffeur for his wife and children paid for by Gauteng EFF’s legislature funds.

Gardee posted a picture of a cellphone text conversation he had with Tshabalala about her ambition to be the EFF’s women’s wing national leader.

She allegedly wrote: “GG, I want to be the chairperson of the women’s league – nationally! I know I can and I will do it with excellence – you know me.”

Tshabalala however poured cold water on this and replied: “Hahahaha Godrich Gardee try something else! I was waiting for you to react, especially with this one. Do u know the art of war ...? I was onto u chief and u fell for it and exposed your ambitions of being ambassador... Me want to lead eff women’s league, shame ... Which one? stupid SG!”

Gardee’s cellphone was off when City Press contacted him for comment on Tuesday. Tshabalala’s phone rang unanswered.

The EFF defectors were welcomed back to the ANC at the Mbombela Rugby Stadium by ANC national executive committee (NEC) member and telecommunications minister Siyabonga Cwele, NEC counterpart David Mahlobo (also State Security Minister), Mpumalanga secretary Lucky Ndinisa, and regional party leaders.
