East London shop owner shot dead

Johannesburg - A 24-year-old shop owner has been shot dead in Duncan village, East London, police said on Tuesday.

Lieutenant Colonel Mtati Tana said the man, who had not yet been identified, was preparing to close the shop on Monday night when two armed men entered and shot him once in the head.

Tana said neighbours heard gunshots and phoned the police.

"On arrival, we found him lying dead in a pool of blood next to the counter," he said.

It had not yet been established whether anything was stolen.
